One Day I’ll…

One day I’ll come to realize,
there’s no passion, there’s no heat
I wake up, work, come home,
and when that’s done I hit repeat

One day I’ll see the truth,
for what it really is
I want to break this cycle,
but I can’t just call it quits

One day I’ll see the light,
and on that day I’ll go exploring
that thought brings so much fear to me,
so that thought I’ll keep ignoring

One day I’ll do what’s in my heart,
and what was meant for me
right now I’m just not _____ enough,
so I’ll just let it be

One day I’ll take the harder road,
and I could stumble, I might fall
what I want isn’t down the easy road,
it does not resist at all

One day I’ll probably start,
to work on building and creating
I hope one day comes soon,
because my life is slowly fading

One day after another,
as time just passes by
I can’t do what I really want,
I’m scared to even try

One day I’ll look behind me,
and I’ll wish I had of done
that which I was scared to do,
that would have made life fun

Well it’s all said and done now,
and that one day never came
I didn’t make a difference,
R.I.P. to what’s-his-name

Nice poem Broderick Allen. This rang true for me. I’m happy to say I broke the “cycle” last fall (left a job that was a bad fit); now I’m “exploring”. It is a little scary, but not as bad as I had imagined.

Hi JD and thanks for the feedback. I’m happy to hear that. It’s so easy to fall in that cycle and definitely takes some courage to get out of.

I like this poem, as well. It really does ring true to the importance of not putting off what’s in our heart…and reminds me that now is the time. That’s all we really have…

Great poem. As an award winning author of the Bur Bur and Friends children’s book series, I know what it is to just do. Five years ago, I never would have imagined I would be an author of books that educates kids about sports and outdoor exploration. It has not been an easy road, but it has been a fulfilling one. I have the pleasure of not having to be the one who says, “I have always wanted to write and publish children’s book.” I get to be the one who says “I did it”

I agree, this is a great poem indeed. It’s always good to do what one loves to do, regardless of the fear or challenges. After all, we only get one shot at this life, why not take the best shot? Thanks for sharing this, Broderick.

Sorry I took so long responding to your messages. I saw them a while ago and tried to think of the perfect responses. Then I realized there is no perfect response.
I don’t think you know how much I appreciate the feedback.

@Lance – Exactly. It took me a while to get that though.
@Kakie – I’m so happy to hear you had that experience. Some of the best people to be around are the people that are genuinely happy and fulfilled with what they do.
@Spin Ready – Thank you for the feedback and I agree. Building up the courage to face that fear is worth it in the end too.

This is a great list for why we don’t succeed with life.

I feel I’m doing exactly what I’m supposed to be doing (at this moment)
And that is all we really have, isn’t it ?
But, I have been able to stir just a tiny bit of an awakening in a few, who then redirect their path. I feel my path is communicator, though I label myself as an artist.
This poem touches on all these. If you were to project yourself to your 80th birthday, what excuses would you tell yourself as to why you passed on opportunity.

@ Patricia – Thank you for the comment!
@ J.R. – I’m so glad to hear the impact you’ve made. Keep it up and I appreciate the feedback.
